Performance Evaluation of Hop-by-Hop Local Mobility Agents Probing for Mobile IPv6

چکیده
Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and Fast Handover (FHO) have been developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to address the IP mobility issues of roaming mobile devices, and to reduce handover latency due to link switching delay, movement detection and IP address configuration during MIPv6 operation, respectively. In an attempt to enhance the performance of MIPv6, the Hop-byHop Local Mobility Agents Probing (HbH-LMAsP) Localized Mobility Management (LMM) scheme was devised and proposed to IETF as an internet draft. In this paper, simulations that were performed on MIPv6 and subsequently, on MIPv6 with the addition of the HbHLMAsP (with and without FHO) functionality, were described. The results obtained based on registration delay, packet loss, and the overhead computation, were analyzed and discussed. The improvements contributed by the HbH-LMAsP LMM scheme over the basic Mobile IPv6 were shown to be significant. The discussion on load balancing was also covered.

Designs and analysis of local mobility agents discovery, selection and failure detection for Mobile IPv6
This paper addresses the problem of Local Mobility Management (LMM) for Mobile IPv6. First, the analysis on the conformance of the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) to the fundamental LMM Requirements set out in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Internet Drafts, is carried out. This paper then describes three of our proposed solutions for LMM namely, “Route Tracing”, “En-Route Local Mo...
متن کاملMipv6 Protocols: a Survey and Comparative Analysis
As the future generation networks are envisioned to be heterogeneous in nature, seamless mobility in such networks is an important issue. While IETF work groups have standardized various mobility management protocols, such as Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 (Predictive FMIPv6, and Reactive FMIPv6), Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6), Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) and Fast Handov...
متن کاملIPv6 FLOW HANDOFF IN AD HOC WIRELESS NETWORKS USING MOBILITY PREDICTION
In an ad hoc wireless network, mobile hosts are acting as routers and the network topology is constantly changing due to node mobility. The disruptions can cause serious degradation for real-time session. This paper describes a new protocol, the Flow Oriented Routing Protocol (FORP), for routing real-time IPv6 ows (e.g., voice and data) in highly mobile ad hoc wireless networks. A new concept c...
متن کاملQoS-Conditionalized Handoff for Mobile IPv6
In this paper we present a scheme that enables a mobile user to perform a ”QoS-conditionalized” handoff when moving to an overlapping area in Mobile IPv6. The idea is to use a QoS hop-by-hop option piggybacked in the binding messages for QoS signaling and conditionalize a handoff upon the availability of sufficient resources along the new transmission path. Our scheme builds upon the hierarchic...
متن کاملMobility Support in IPv6 Based on the VIP Mechanism
IPv6, the successor of current IP (IPv4), is now under development. Mobility support is one of the requirements for IPv6. This paper proposes a protocol for mobility support in IPv6. The proposed protocol is based on the mechanisms of Virtual Internet Protocol (VIP), which provides mobility in IPv4. Two Hop-by-Hop options are added to support mobility, one for user data and another for control....
